PLACES AND BUILDINGS

In this lesson you will learn: How to ask for and give directions to get a place.

12. ACTIVITY: Directions -Group work: speaking.
AIM: To ask for and give directions in order to locate different places on a map.



Before class: Make one copy of the worksheet for every 2 students and cut them out as
indicated.

In class:
1. Divide students into pairs and give out map A to one student and map B to the other in
each pair. Ask to them not to show their map at any time during the activity.
2. Tell students to have a look at their map and imagine they are outside the Bus station.
Explain to them they have to ask for and give directions for the places they need to get to according to the list included in their map, and write in the names of the missing places once they locate them.
3. If necessary, have a pair of students ask for and give directions to get to a place as an example:
Student A: Excuse me, how can I get to the grocery store?
Student B: Go along Tree Street. The grocery store is on the corner of Rain Street and Tree Street.
Student A: Thank you.
4. Monitor the activity. Make sure students write in the name of a place each time they find it on their map following their partner’s instructions.
5. Once students finish, ask them to compare their maps, which should be identical.
PRODUCT: Read and follow on their own map to check they are correct.
